Jung Hong Park
Artist Jung-Hong Park created a colour code, a symbol system, to symbolize his sincere emotions from his daily life and engraved them into his work. His works, which continued from 2007 to 2012, beautifully express various words and phrases, such as the date of the work, his family's daily memories, and the lyrics of his favourite songs.

Vases for each of the members of my family. I started documenting the names of my family members to remember them after a shocking realisation I had not known the names of my mothers(grandmothers and aunts) until I was over 30.* The heights of each vase, on which I inscribed their names, represents one-tenth of the height of that particular family member.
* In Korean tradition, there is a variety of specific vocabulary used for addressing each family member, instead of using their name, according to how closely you are related to them, particularly when a younger person is addressing an elder. For example, a sister of your father should be addressed as ‘gomo,’ while a sister of mother would be ‘imo,’ and the wife of father’s brother would be ‘sookmo’, etc. In all the above words, the suffix ‘-mo’ comes from the Korean word for ‘mother’.

A project to record the date when a piece was made. By registering the production date on a ceramic piece that will remain materially unchanged over time, I inscribe my existence and my limited time in the lifespan of that piece. That is, it is “an encoding as an intention to become immortal and to deny meaningless of the world.”(V.Flusser)

The 'seriousness' of the art he pursues cannot be easily conceptualized or expressed in words, a story that stands out as a symbolic sign. After all, for the artist, the medium, soil, is an open 'text' that 'does not define anything nor makes a distinction.’ It provides possibilities of all of them."
The artist currently lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
